Congratulations to all of the teams competing in songSLAM this year!
We are excited to announce the winners of the NYC songSLAM 2023.
Live audience voting awarded first place to Team 1, second place to Team 11, and third place to Team 14.
Most votes in the virtual SLAM went to Team 8, followed by Team 12, and Team 14 in third place.
Most money raised by each team, went to Team 12, followed by Team 1, with Team 11 in third place.
The 2023 songSLAM commission prize has been awarded to composer Laura Nevitt, selected by a panel including Lydia Brown, Reginald Mobley, and Lucy Shelton.
Virtual voting for the NYC songSLAM was open from January 13th at 7pm EST through 11:59 PM EST on January 22nd. Voters listened to each work and voted for their favorite via Give Lively (link below each video).
The funds that each team raises during the virtual event will be split 50/50 with the respective team members and Sparks & Wiry Cries, who will use their portion to reinvest into larger commissions, future competitions, and new art song initiatives.
A further prize for the commission of a new song cycle, to be premiered in 2024, was awarded by a jury consisting of soprano Lucy Shelton, countertenor Reginald Mobley, pianist Lydia Brown, and the Sparks & Wiry Cries Directors: soprano Martha Guth and pianist Erika Switzer.
